Kimbolton is a rural village north of Feilding in the Manawatu District of the NZ’s North Island. It is 20 minutes from Feilding. And has not lost its village atmosphere and the relaxed pace of simpler times.
The township was initially called Fowlers, then Birmingham, after the UK midlands city. It got its current name in 1900, after Kimbolton, a village in Cambridgeshire, England, that is the site of Kimbolton Castle, once the home of the Duke of Manchester.
Residents love there home despite the fact that they commute to work in larger places. Many of the homes in Kimbolton are original to the village. They are set amongst established trees on generous 3/4 – 1 acre sections. And many people have vegetable gardens, chickens and a few sheep.
The established nature of the village provides a sense of peace and settledness. This extends into the patterns of life of those who live there.
Kimbolton seems to be a place where both residents and visitors can take a breath or two, away from the increasingly demanding requirements of modern life. Local attractions include Cross Hill Gardens and its annual fair.
