Gisbourne’s Tairawhiti Museum and Art Gallery features changing exhibitions of regional history, local and national art exhibitions, and a historic cottage and ship to explore. It has a reputation as one of the very best, most innovative regional museums in New Zealand.
With a cafe on site, the aim of the museum is to become an integral part of the community of Tairāwhiti. In recent years the museum and gallery have undergone significant change including major building extensions and redevelopment of all exhibition spaces.
