Visit Erewhon Station and enjoy a farm tour the old-fashioned way. The historic high country station’s clydesdales will take you on a wagon tour of the beautiful countryside that stood in for Rohan in the Lord of the Rings movies.
Canterbury’s Erewhon Station is two and a half hours drive from Christchurch. The picturesque 35000 acre sheep & beef property nestles into the Southern Alps. The local landscape provided a magnificent backdrop for, the Lord of the Rings movie, “The Two Towers”. And Edoras, the capital of Rohan, was located on Mt Sunday at neighbouring Mt Potts Station.
The Station includes a large Clydesdale Horse Stud and use horses instead of vehicles if at all possible. The work team do the cultivating work and pull the wagon on the station.
Here you can join in and experience a wagon ride like no other. The track is full of variety and your farm tour will offer you views of a breath taking landscape of rivers, tussocks, mountains & glaciers.
The comfortable off-road wagon seats 14 people with a 6 horse team in a 2 rows of 3. You will head off the beaten track into a magical landscape that can’t be experienced from the road. There are loads of great photo opportunities. And the chance to experience Aotearoa’s high country at the horses pace will make your wagon ride an unforgettable trip.
