Brookfield House and Garden, Oamaru

Located in Weston on the outskirts of Oamaru, Brookfield Park offers an opportunity to enter a botanical wonderland where Victorian tradition meets imagination.  Set on 13 acres of landscaped gardens, the home has been restored to its original state.

Brookfield Park was designed by renowned local architect Thomas Forrester for the original owner John Gilchrist, 1st Mayor of Oamaru. Jennifer (JJ) Rendell bought the property in 2003. Her intention was to return Brookfield to its former glory as a family home and estate.

JJ’s dream has always been to create an imaginative garden retreat surrounding a restored Victorian country homestead. The restorative process was challenging as the property and garden had fallen into serious disrepair. But after a lot of hard graft and plenty of imagination, JJ achieved her vision.

Brookfield Park has delighted visitors ever since. There are seating and picnic spots a plenty for those who seek a place to pause and enjoy these tranquil surroundings.
