Edwin Fox

The Edwin Fox Ship is a fantastic piece of World heritage on the Picton foreshore in The Marlborough Sounds.  The ship has been lovingly preserved over the last 30 years and sits in dry dock in Picton for all to explore and enjoy.

The Edwin Fox Society completed much of the hard work to get the ship to its preserved state. But the ship is now in the hands of the Marlborough Heritage Trust, which has been set up to safe guard Marlborough’s heritage for future generations to enjoy.

The Edwin Fox is one of a kind, a forgotten treasure. It is the last surviving ship that took convicts to Australia, the last wooden Crimea War troop carrier and oldest Merchant ship in the World.  It was also the oldest wooden vessel that brought immigrants to New Zealand.

Watch a documentary and view artefacts and displays in the museum. Then visit the ship and learn about conditions the passengers endured, exploring the stories of some of the characters, convicts, immigrants, captains in the boat shed area.
