Horner’s Country Garden

Ken and Jennifer Horner have established a large country garden on the outskirts of Hawera over 30 plus years.  The garden evolved from what was bare hillside in 1978, when the gully & boundary were fenced & planted. Today  the skilled blending of many native & exotic plants is a particular strength of the garden.

Extensive plantings of trees both native and introduced sit comfortably within the wider landscape, adjacent to the 400-year-old Puketarata Pa. The mature cordylines (cabbage trees) are an eye catching and unusual feature reflecting the Taranaki landscape. Generous herbaceous plantings feature throughout the garden, set off by views of Mt Egmont/Taranaki & inland Taranaki.
