Len Lye Centre at the Govett-Brewster Gallery

The Len Lye Centre opened within New Plymouth’s Govett-Brewster Art Gallery in July 2015. It has rapidly become one of Aotearoa’s most photographed buildings. Wrapped in stainless steel, the building extends the contemporary art exhibitions and events that the Govett-Brewster has been renowned for since 1970.

Behind a striking stainless steel façade, which has caught the attention of the world’s media, you will find a celebration of Len Lye’s extraordinary art.

Discover Lye’s pioneering work with film in the gallery’s purpose-built cinema and in exhibitions from the Len Lye Foundation Collection and Archive. The exhibitions explore the breadth of Lye’s practice. Experience his motion sketches and myth paintings and his abstract experimental films and dancing kinetic sculptures.

It’s all set

The combined art museum offers a busy programme of exhibitions and events that span the art spectrum. It has a gift and design shop with exclusive Govett-Brewster and Len Lye merchandise and its smart onsite café – Monica’s Eatery – is one of the city’s best.
