Openlands is a country garden and wedding venue in Taranaki in the west of the North Island, owned and operated by Marie and Rodney Mills. It was established in 1961 by Rodney’s parents. And has come a long way from the half acre section with two trees and a homestead it was then.
Originally the property was a sheep and pig farm with a handful of dairy cows. Now Openlands is a dairy farm with a handful of sheep. When Marie and Rodney took over in 1979, it was easy for them to extend the boundaries into what was paddocks, to create 2 ½ acres of our now relaxing and tranquil garden.
Visitors to Openlands can explore the many crooks and crannies of its magical setting. Picnickers are welcome to sit and enjoy the setting and water features and bask in the beautiful grounds.
