Orari Gorge Station is set in the South Canterbury foothills of the Southern Alps just north of Geraldine. It includes river flats at 750ft (230m) above sea level, rolling clay downs at 1000-1500ft (305-457m) and tussock country rising up to 3,500ft (1070M). It is a fully working cattle, sheep and deer station.
The station is home to the Orari Gorge Romneys and Orari Gorge Herefords studs. The owners also run 7000 commercial ewes, 400 commercial cows and 1500 hinds.
At Orari Gorge they breed stock that are both self sufficient and highly productive. Stock are capable of looking after themselves through tough winters on the hill. They then produce high numbers of lambs and calves. Almost all the young stock on the farm are grown to be ready for food production. And stock sold before this stage are usually well sought after.
