Waitakere Wilderness Experience

The Waitakere Wilderness Experience nature tour is a great introduction to New Zealand nature. It visits stunning scenic rainforest and Piha’s black sand surf beach, in West Auckland. The easy walking tracks and dramatic coastline are near Auckland and an experienced guide and a small group size means you will be well looked after.

The first stop is at a visitors’ centre, a short drive from central Auckland, at the entrance to the largest native rainforest area in the Auckland region. The centre has dramatic panoramic views across the rainforest and Auckland and both of its harbours. Then its onto the lush native rainforest where you walk the easy tracks among giant tree ferns.

Learn about the famous New Zealand silver fern, manuka and kauri trees as your guide shows you what makes New Zealand nature so unique.  Then experience the power of the rugged west coast with a stop at a stunning viewpoint overlooking Piha beach and the Tasman Sea. You’ll then go down to the black sand beach. There you get the chance to stroll along one of the most awe-inspiring beaches the world has to offer and watch the surf waves rolling in.
