Hicks Bay is a bay and coastal area in the Gisborne District of the North Island of Aotearoa. It is 150 km east of Opotiki and 186 km north of Gisborne city, along State Highway 35 between Potaka and Te Araroa.
This is a great slice of rural, coastal New Zealand. Along this stretch of paradise, you’ll discover a beautiful bay for swimming, enchanting waterfalls, swimming holes, and a glowworm grotto. The remains of the old freezing works near the wharf is now very popular for fishing.
In town, there is a general store with fish n chips for takeaways, a post office, and the local marae Hinemaurea ki Wharekahika.
