Taupō

Taupō sits in the heart of New Zealand’s North Island, on the shores of the magnificent Lake Taupō. Its lakefront settings and outdoor sports ranging from fishing to jet-boating distinguish this popular holiday/vacation destination.

The vast waters of Lake Taupō, NZ’s biggest lake, drain into the Waikato river. All that water then roars through the dramatic Huka Falls in crystal-blue cascades just north of the town. And hiking and biking trails abound in the area.

The lake is a water filled volcanic caldera. And hot springs and geothermal areas help to form this dramatic landscape around Taupō.

Indeed, you will find every landscape you can imagine, as you travel around the lake – from ancient forests alive with birdsong, trout-filled rivers offering world-famous fishing experiences to steaming geothermal valleys with rejuvenating hot springs.

Further south are three towering volcanoes in the awesome and otherworldly landscape of Tongariro National Park. The park is home to snow-blanketed winter ski fields and alpine deserts .
